Hotel We Love: Little America Cheyenne WY

This luxury western oasis offers old-fashioned elegance and world-class golf just steps from the highway.

If you are from the western United States, you are probably familiar with Little America, which has large and long-standing properties in Salt Lake City, Flagstaff and Cheyenne. Named after a research station in Antarctica, the company’s resorts have a charming “Western Luxury” appearance with low buildings spread over the site-a kind of open version of the vast properties that made the Catskills famous in the 1950s and 1960s. The location in Cheyenne is no exception, but the prairie view is an added bonus.

History

Little America Cheyenne was a separate town before the arrival of hoteliers in the first half of the twentieth century, making the old community its first domain. The carpet lobby draws heavily on its Western influences, with sofas, a fireplace, sculptures and rodeo-style lamps. Restaurants and a cowboy-influenced clothing, jewelry and utensil store can be found in the lobby.

Quarter

Of the 188 rooms, eight sizes are available, and even the smallest – The Deluxe King and the Deluxe Two Queens – are spacious. Each room is decorated with works of art chosen by the owners, and the large rooms have a comfortable seating area. The property was renovated in 2006 and all rooms have been equipped, among other things, with mini-refrigerators and microwaves. It includes a Keurig coffee machine, a flat-screen TV and free high-speed Wi-Fi access. This property is available.

District

The resort is both a family hotel for long-term stays and an oasis for long-distance travelers and cross-country skiers, as it is located at the intersection of I-80 and I-25. It’s a short drive to Cheyenne Frontier Days Park as well as downtown, so if you’re looking for a night bar, you’ve got it covered.

The current owners also own Sinclair Oil, a Wyoming chain of refineries and gas stations with a number of locations, including one at the end of the hotel parking lot, which makes it easy to restock before hitting the road again.

Food

Hathaway’s Restaurant and Lounge, a glamorous old-fashioned family restaurant, is descended from the hotel’s original restaurant, Cheyenne’s Coffee Shop and the Western Gold Dining Room. It still serves the homemade turkey rolls that were the hallmark of the first restaurant, but now it is just one of the many savory dishes on offer, such as prime rib, fried chicken steak and many burgers, sandwiches and salads. The menu is also available in the lounge, a reserved area where travelers from all over the country rub elbows. Breakfast at Hathaway’s is very popular and attracts locals for weekend brunch, especially the elaborate and rich affairs of Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Easter.

EVERYTHING ELSE

A course classified by the Golf Association extends over the property, thus attracting travelers to work on their swing. There are also sports activities outside the golf course, from the heated outdoor swimming pool to a nice playground and a modern fitness center. For business travelers, there is a business center with computers and printers, as well as numerous meeting and conference rooms.
